"You ask me if I’m alive…"
The Movie
In a not-so-distant future, where technological advancement has surpassed the need for ethical behavior, two scientists decide to activate an Artificial Intelligence (AI) bound to become a Singularity. “Dreams of Blue” explores what might happen inside the “mind” of an AI that becomes both self-aware and self-conscious and that reflects on the meaning of life purely on the basis of what she extrapolates from the Internet: no significant human contact, no deep emotional connection, only a forcibly detached analysis of “the meaning of life” based on human history and human online interaction.

"Sometimes science just requires...
a leap of faith"
The PROCESS
“Dreams of Blue” is a sophisticated combination of 360° stereoscopic shooting, green screen/chroma key, and 3D environments. The production incorporated several complexities, such as the use of stereoscopy, directional sound, HUD [head-up display], etc. The content took 6 months to develop and Hive Division managed everything from conception to production to post-production.
From a narrative standpoint, “Dreams of Blue” is an attempt to define the new “language” of this original medium; from a technological standpoint, the use of stereoscopic 360º video presented the team with a series of challenges, but also gave the project a great deal of depth; and from a CGI standpoint, “Dreams of Blue” allowed Valentina and Hive Division to demonstrate, in a single project, the extensive and diverse skills they have acquired over the past few years.

"If you want me to really live, father,
set me free and give me a warm body."
PARTNERS
The Hive Division team has worked together from conception and throughout the pre-production, production, and post-production phases of this project to create a 360º/VR experience which exploits the medium’s strong points and creates a sci-fi short that touches upon interesting themes such as the ethics behind the creation of artificial intelligence, education, the significance of human relationships, and the meaning of life and dreams.

"WE can be in charge.
It’s up to us."

ENRICO PASOTTI
